Infrastructure & Networking

From curiosity to infrastructure.

My interest in computers started in primary school, when I regularly helped teachers troubleshoot classroom PCs, resolve presentation and media-format issues, and handle other day-to-day technical problems.

I'm now an engineering undergraduate with hands-on experience in networking and infrastructure through operating PCDN edge nodes, building a Proxmox-based home server environment, working with Linux and OpenWrt, and troubleshooting hardware and network issues.

I'm currently preparing for a career in infrastructure and network engineering while continuing to strengthen my networking fundamentals, Linux skills, and Japanese.

Type
Independent Technical Project
Platform
Onething Cloud (网心云)
Period
2024–2026

Self-Operated Edge Delivery Infrastructure (PCDN)

Operated self-managed PCDN infrastructure through Onething Cloud, providing hardware and bandwidth resources for distributed content-delivery workloads.

  • Expanded in 2024 to approximately five Onething OES ARM edge devices; each ARM node used up to ~300 Mbps upstream.
  • Transitioned from ARM devices to x86-based nodes in late 2025 for more flexible hardware utilization.
  • Selected, assembled, and deployed Xeon-based x86 systems, including an Intel Xeon D-1581 node in 2026.
  • Configured iKuai for multi-WAN connectivity, connection-based load balancing, and traffic distribution.
  • Operated an x86 node with two independent 1 Gbps upstream broadband connections.
  • Installed platform-provided system images and handled troubleshooting across hardware, node OS, LAN / WAN connectivity, and platform availability.

Type
Personal Infrastructure Project

Home Infrastructure Lab

Built and operated a home server environment using second-hand Xeon-based hardware and Proxmox VE for virtualization, self-hosted services, storage, networking experiments, and smart-home integration.

  • Used Proxmox VE to run multiple VMs for home services and infrastructure roles.
  • Ran OpenWrt in a VM as a secondary gateway for network and proxy services.
  • Deployed fnOS with physical disk passthrough for media storage, photo backup, and Docker-based self-hosted services.
  • Ran Home Assistant and integrated Mi Home and Aqara Matter-compatible devices into Apple HomeKit for centralized control.
  • Used a CentOS VM for Linux testing and self-hosted web services with 1Panel and AList.
  • Combined DDNS with router DMZ configuration to expose selected services through a personal domain.
  • Configured PPPoE, diagnosed connectivity with Linux networking tools, and managed services and automatic startup with systemd.

Coursework toward a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering — Co-enrolled Student

Completed one academic year as a co-enrolled UH student in the DMU–UH Joint Dual-Degree Engineering Program, with coursework and assessments conducted in English; my cohort later transitioned to DMU's standard program following changes to the universities' international academic partnership.
